Signals

Signals / 2019
Signals is an GPS based augmented reality application that shows the presence of signals, which are usually invisible to the human eye. There is an abstract shape is placed above one of the main hubs of Arnhem: Willemsplein. Cars, busses, cyclists and pedestrians converge here, resulting in heavy traffic: visible and invisible.

Signals resulted in a nine minute soundscape, inspired by noise and interference of telephone infrastructure and magnetic fields and deforms the slow-moving abstract shape. The distortion is getting bigger when the noise, caused by the signals, increases.

When approaching the spot, the sound will get louder and the visualisation will grow. When reached the right spot, the shape will float as an enormous mass in the sky. The immersive sound will come and go; just like the invisible signals.
